LAS VEGAS (FOX5) —The city of Henderson continues to reimagine Boulder Highway and wants your input. Right now, there is an online survey open to anyone who uses the historic corridor as its future is being shaped.
Work is well underway to transform what was a highway built to get workers from Downtown Vegas to the Hoover Dam nearly 100 years ago into a more pedestrian friendly, modern roadway. Boulder Highway is now an orange cone highway throughout its 7.5 mile stretch in Henderson.
Plans to transform the deadliest road for pedestrians in the state started back in 2006. Construction began last summer, and a walkability study was held last fall.
FOX5 walked along with dozens of people giving real-time feedback. The city used that feedback to update plans and is now in Phase II of its Connecting Communities Initiative to improve pedestrian access along the Boulder Highway Corridor. The extensive roadway makeover will feature center-running bus lane and aims to make the road safer for both bicyclists and pedestrians.
The city wants feedback once again. The new survey that’s now live asks people if there should be more housing or more businesses and how tall should they be? It also focuses on what should be changed at three major intersections: Boulder and Gibson, Boulder and Lake Mead, and Boulder and College.
The city says public input is essential in shaping the final plan, which is expected to be adopted in early 2026. Construction is expected to run through July 2027. The survey to give your feedback is open through Aug. 15th. You can take the survey be clicking here: survey.
If you would prefer to give your feedback on Boulder Highway in person, the city of Henderson will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, July 30th. There you will be able to view conceptual designs and speak directly with project staff. That will be at the America First Center from 5 p.m. To 7:30 p.m.
