LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The City of Henderson is asking residents for feedback on planned improvements to Lake Mead Parkway between Interstate 11 and Lake Las Vegas.

The city will host an open-house-style public meeting to gather input from the community as they begin the Lake Mead Parkway Corridor study.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the America First Center Lookout Room, 222 Water St. in downtown Henderson. Residents can attend at any time during the window to voice their opinions.

Lake Mead Parkway is one of Henderson’s busiest roadways, carrying more than 60,000 vehicles daily. The corridor is expected to see increased congestion due to future growth in Cadence, Lake Las Vegas, and the Three Kids Mine development.

“Our intent of this entire project is not to only look at capacity but look at bicyclists and pedestrians and transit, but without compromising any of the roadway structure,” City Engineer Steven Conner said.

Resident Concerns

Some residents have expressed concerns about the proposed changes, with online comments including, “Don’t Boulder Highway my Lake Mead,” “No center running transit or bike lanes please,” and “Leave Lake Mead Parkway alone.” The concerns stem partly from construction fatigue, as residents have endured ongoing work on nearby Boulder Highway.

However, the city offered reassurance about the timeline.

“Right now, we’re just doing a corridor study. The construction on Lake Mead will happen long after Boulder Highway is completed,” Conner said.

The Boulder Highway project is expected to wrap up by September 2027, meaning construction on Lake Mead Parkway will not begin for at least four years.

How to Participate

Residents unable to attend the in-person meeting can voice their opinions through an online survey, which will remain available through March 15. The city is also considering scheduling additional meetings.

“Please fill out the survey. We want everyone’s input. We’re also considering additional meetings that aren’t scheduled at this time,” Conner said.

More information and the link to the online survey are available on the City of Henderson’s website.
