LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An injured hiker was rescued from Red Rock Canyon by a helicopter crew Saturday.

Las Vegas Metro search and rescue teams were deployed to Red Springs around 6 p.m. for a rescue operation. A hiker had sustained an ankle injury while climbing the Happy Acres route and became stranded.

Crews initially hiked into the area and found the individual, but were forced to call in rescue helicopter AIR1 for extraction.

The hiker was hoisted from the area by the helicopter and brought to a Bureau of Land Management fire station, where an ambulance then transported them to a nearby hospital.
