LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The man accused in a hit-and-run that sent a Nevada trooper to the hospital told investigators fleeing was “the right thing to do,” according to documents.
FOX5 obtained the arrest report for Mark Guyot, who is facing DUI charges related to the crash. According to Nevada State Police, on Tuesday night, he hit an occupied patrol car southbound on I-15, north of the 215 beltway, and drove off. After crashing into the patrol car, police say he hit a nearby unoccupied tow truck.
The injured trooper was stopped in the area to respond to a crash in a construction zone, according to investigators. The arrest report says Guyot drove to the Silverton Casino, parked, and sat at a slot machine until casino security informed troopers.
Police found Guyot, who the report stated was “falling asleep at the machine.” Detectives grabbed him as he did not comply with commands to stand up. He was placed in handcuffs before questioning.
According to the arrest report, Guyot had “bloodshot, watery eyes and thick slurred speech” during questioning. Detectives also noticed “a strong intoxicating odor from him.” When asked about leaving the scene of the crash, he stated it was the “right thing to do… not the hit-and-run, but yes.”
Guyot also told police he had three drinks and he did not smoke marijuana or take medications. He consented to field sobriety tests but failed them, and later refused a preliminary breath test.
While searching his vehicle, investigators also reported findingtwo empty bottles of whiskey behind the driver’s seat.
According to court records, Guyot posted a cash bond on Wednesday, August 13, and was released from custody. His bail is set at $100,000.
It is unclear when Guyot is due next in court.
NHP said the trooper involved had minor injuries and was later released from the hospital and returned for duty.
