LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A man was hospitalized on Sunday after being struck in a hit-and-run crash in west Las Vegas.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred around 1:56 a.m. on South Sandhill Road and East Hawaii Avenue. A preliminary investigation determined that a 63-year-old man was sleeping inside a makeshift tent in a desert area on the east side of Sandhill when a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze LS traveled off-road and struck the man.
Police say the Chevrolet then stopped inside a business just north of the crash, where several bystanders confronted the driver and passenger and told them to wait for police. The Chevrolet fled the scene and was abandoned nearby while both occupants fled on foot in an unknown direction.
The man was transported to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit, where he remains in critical condition.
