LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Tuesday, dozens of people made their voices known at the Henderson City Council meeting.

A near-unanimous public comment period asking the city to end its mutual contract with ICE. ICE’s contract with the City of Henderson dates back to 2010. Despite that, Henderson police do not assist immigration enforcement in any way.

Tuesday night’s outcry by many residents comes off the deadly shooting in Minneapolis, where an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Good. Many in public comment said they fear ICE just because of the way they look.

“Is it a crime to just have brown skin? Families are being torn apart. People are dying in detainment camps. When will people, when will you realize the inhumanity of it all? Please end the agreement with ICE and save people that look like me,” one resident said.

One resident spoke against the crowd, saying her husband is training to be an ICE officer. She said there is training being done, and the comparisons people make are not fair.

“And now he’s going through the 12 weeks of immigration law that’s required to be an immigration enforcement officer. Then he’ll go on to the academy. So listen to these guys call them Nazis. See, they are untrained, undisciplined. Are you kidding me? Every one of you,” she said.

Henderson City Council made no decision on the mutual agreement with ICE due to it not even being on the agenda. There was no indication any kind of topic would be addressed in future meetings.
