LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – There are several things our neighbors in southern California desperately need and somethings they do not. Money is really what is needed most with so many families losing their homes and most everything they own. At Albertson’s and Von’s grocery stores throughout the Vegas area, you can make a monetary donation at checkout.

There are also many local donation drives. After one of their own had a family member impacted by the Palisades Fire, UNLV nursing students quickly came together to collect what they can and will hold a community donation drive this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UNLV Clinical Simulation Center.

“Especially as nursing students, that is one thing that we are passionate about is helping people in their time of need,” Caryn Ramsey shared.

Donations from all over the region are now getting to those who need them filling the Santa Anita racetrack near the Eaton Fire. FOX5 visited the site and we are told plenty of clothes have been donated and are no longer needed.

So how can you help most? Through financial donations and bottled water. Even outside the immediately fire zone of the Eaton fire, people in the Pasadena area still can’t drink the water because of possible contamination during the fires.

FOX5 is teaming up with the Salvation Army to collect much needed water bottles. You can drop them off at United Nissan where the showroom of the dealership is stacked with pallets destined for the fire zones in southern California. They’ve collected 27,000 bottles so far.

“Being our neighbors in California, a lot of people have family there so they felt the impact. So, they thought this was a great thing to do,” explained Christopher Padilla, General Manager of United Nissan. The dealership is open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. to take in donations. The first truck load goes down Friday.
