LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – These days, most businesses use websites to recruit new workers.
Unfortunately, cybercriminals are also using the same sites to recruit their latest scam victims.
Here’s how it works: The bad actors will post a fake listing to a reputable recruitment website. These posts look legitimate, but they lead to a malicious website. It’ll look just like the real thing, but it’s actually a clever imposter set up to steal personal information.
Cybercriminals also may send a recruitment letter. Again, it will look real. In face, scammers often hack into real email addresses to pose as hiring managers. In this case, the link will lead to an imposter site where they will collect data and leave victims vulnerable to other types of crime.
Experts urge users to be suspicious of unsolicited email. Look for red flags like spelling and grammar errors. Do not click on links from unfamiliar sources.
Also, avoid filing applications on recruitment platforms.
Applying directly via an organization careers page is a much safer strategy.
