LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Saturday is International Museum Day, and here’s how to celebrate in the Las Vegas valley!

International Museum Day is held annually on May 18 and is coordinated by the International Council of Museums. The holiday aims to raise awareness of the role museums play in communities and larger society.

This year’s theme is “Museum of Education and Research.”

Clark County Heritage Museum

This museum takes you through Southern Nevada’s history, ranging from prehistoric times to modern day with a collection of restored, historic buildings.

WHERE: 1830 S. Boulder Hwy.

COST: $2 for adults, $1 for seniors and children

HOURS: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Las Vegas Natural History Museum

Founded in 1991, this museum takes visitors on a tour through the prehistoric, natural history of Southern Nevada from the desert to the ocean.

WHERE: 900 Las Vegas Blvd. N.

COST: $12 for adults; $10 for seniors, military and students; $6 for children (aged 3 to 11)

HOURS: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Discovery Children’s Museum

This museum is geared towards giving children of every background a diverse and educational experience with interactive exhibits and programs.

WHERE: 360 Promenade Pl.

COST: $14.50 for all ages

HOURS: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

National Atomic Testing Museum

This museum tells the story of America’s nuclear weapons testing program at the Nevada Test Site.

WHERE: 755 E. Flamingo Rd.

COST: $29 for adults, discounts available

HOURS: 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Nevada State Museum

Located inside the Spring Preserve, this museum houses several historical collections containing artifacts and exhibits of the prehistoric, natural history of Southern Nevada.

WHERE: 333 S. Valley View Blvd.

COST: Included with admission to Springs Preserve

HOURS: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Rita Deanin Abbey Museum

This museum honors one of UNLV’s first art professors, the abstract artist Rita Deanin Abbey. Abbey was known for work across multiple disciplines, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and more!

WHERE: 5850 North Park Street

COST: FREE admission, by appointment only

HOURS: 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
