LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A new scam is targeting older adults.

Con artists are reaching out to offer free cooking and cleaning services in exchange for your Medicare number.

The Federal Trade Commission says these scammers want your Medicare number to sign you up for hospice care. That way they can bill Medicare for all kids of services in your name.

Signing up for hospice care when you don’t need it could affect your Medicare coverage down the road.

So the FTC says keep your Medicare number close and never give it to anyone. Especially someone claiming they’ll cook and clean for you if you hand it over. Medicare does not offer free services like this.

Never agree to hospice care in exchange for money, gift cards or groceries.

Remember, Medicare will never come to your home to get you to sign up for services.

If you come across this scam or fall for it, report it immediately directly to Medicare.
