LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An unusual sight has popped back up in a Henderson neighborhood.
Hundreds of invasive goldfish took over Cadence Central Park Pond.
Just last spring, hundreds of the illegally dumped fish were removed and rehomed from the pond.
Monday, FOX5 stopped by and saw hundreds of fish have made the pond home once again.
This is dangerous as the lined pond is not natural. This means there is no food source for them.
Last April, park officials said someone released the goldfish. It’s often done by well-meaning Las Vegas Valley residents who believe they’re setting an animal free. However, the non-native species can be harmful to the ecosystem.
FOX5 spoke to residents who live nearby. One woman says the fish were spotted just a few months after they were removed.
“I moved here in July and they been here since I moved here,” said Sydney, a Cadence resident. “To me, it looks like every time I walk over here, there might be more.”
In a statement to FOX5, a spokesperson for Cadence said it’s aware of the goldfish, saying, “We are working to humanely relocate the goldfish. We do ask folks not to feed the goldfish as that only increases the issue.”
