LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – This week the Henderson City Council gave the green light for private trappers to trap, neuter and release stray cats.
This was a big push by a group called Henderson Cats who have already been doing this all around the valley.
Arvie Bromley with Henderson Cats has made it her mission to advocate for the TNR program and is glad the city of Henderson is finally allowing her to incorporate her program.
When FOX5 asked Bromley why she thinks it took the city so long to adopt the program she said “maybe they didn’t realize how many cats were out there.”
Starting January 1. the city of Henderson will allow a one year pilot program for Bromley and her volunteers to trap stray cats and sterilize them at Heaven Can Wait Animal Society.
Bromley said they have already received calls from Henderson residents about cats in their area and are concerned about the influx of calls they will get starting in January.
Bromley took FOX5 to an area by Sunset and Eastern that is home to a cat colony.
“Someone must be feeding them,” Bromley said. “We say feed them don’t breed them.”
This particular area had a mix of feral and domestic cats which is why it is so important for Bromley to get ahead of this problem because if she does not it will be an example of a cat colony multiplying.
“It is a crisis,” she said.
Each surgery costs $60 and is completely funded by private citizens or donations.
