LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Officials at Shadow Ridge High School are asking for your help after they say trees were deliberately cut down outside the building and in the main quad area.
The impact can be felt at the bus stop since there won’t be any shade at the bus stop after the trees were cut down on purpose.
Shadow Ridge softball coach, Julia Meyn says the act will have a lasting effect.
“It’s super disappointing. Those trees have been here since the school opened, and it’s not like we can just replace them, and the kind and quality, that’s not how it works,” Meyn said.
Meyn says the vandals are making school leaders do unnecessary work to fix the problem.
“It was devastating because it’s not as simple as painting over something that would have been vandalized. It has no purpose,” Meyn said. “It has no meaning for what they did.”
School leaders are asking for your help identifying the vandals. Here’s the letter sent out to parents.
“Shadow Ridge High School experienced an unfortunate act of vandalism, as trees were deliberately cut down outside the building and in the main quad area. This incident is considered a serious offense involving the destruction of public property and is currently under police investigation.”
Meyn hopes to bring the vandals to justice.
“We’re hurt by this whole thing,” Meyn said. “Aagain, we can’t replace them. They want to know who did this, and we’re hoping to hold them accountable. I’d like to see them replant the trees and do landscaping on campus for the rest of the year!”
CCSD Police tell FOX5 this type of crime starts as a misdemeanor and goes up based on the damage, and that this is an active investigation.
School leaders asking that if you saw anything last Thursday, March 27th between midnight and 2 a.m. to call the school or CCSD Police.
