LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Joe Lombardo announced Monday that he will seek re-election as governor of Nevada.
“You sent me [to Carson City] to deliver results, restore balance to our political system, find consensus and solve real problems for everyday Nevadans,” Lombardo said at a Monday news conference. “That’s what you hired us to do and that’s exactly what we’ve done.”
Lombardo defeated Steve Sisolak to become the 31st governor of Nevada in the November 2022 election, winning by about 15,000 votes. He was sworn into office in January 2023.
According to his biography, Lombardo attended Rancho High School in North Las Vegas, went on to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and served in the Army and the Nevada National Guard. He joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and served as a detective and later assistant sheriff, dedicating 26 years to the force before becoming the sheriff of Clark County. He was first elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018.
“As the sheriff of Nevada’s largest county, he oversaw a $1.3 billion budget, 6,000 employees and the department’s efforts to protect millions of Clark County residents and visitors each day,” Lombardo’s biography said. “More important to him than anything, Gov. Lombardo is a devoted husband to first lady Donna Lombardo, a dedicated father to his daughter Morgan, stepdaughter Lacey, stepson Jackson, and a grandfather to his young grandson, Theodore.”
Lombardo’s current term ends Jan. 4, 2027.
