LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Nevada Supreme Court has reprimanded the attorney who represented the man convicted of jumping over a courtroom bench and attacking a Clark County judge.

Carl Arnold represented Deobra Redden, who was recorded in January 2024, leaping over the bench and attacking Judge Mary Kay Holthus.

According to documents from the Nevada Supreme Court, Arnold mishandled Redden’s criminal appeal by missing required filings and failing to follow court notices and orders.

What the court found

The justices said Arnold’s actions hurt Redden’s case and interfered with the appeal process. Arnold was removed from the case as a result.

Arnold agreed to a suspension of six months and one day, though that suspension is on hold as long as he complies with strict conditions.

Redden’s case

Redden was sentenced to 26 to 65 years in prison for attempted murder. He had pleaded guilty but mentally ill.

Last year, Redden began the process of appealing his case to the Nevada Supreme Court.
