LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – After hours of deliberation, Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones was reprimanded by the State Bar of Nevada late Monday night for misconduct related to the permitting of a housing development near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
The State Bar of Nevada held a hearing for nearly a week for Jones’ case. Monday evening, the Bar determined there was some misconduct in how Jones handled himself in this legal dispute including the intentional deletion of text messages but decided against suspending or revoking Jones’ law license instead issuing a reprimand.
FOX5’s Kim Passoth previous reported that Jones stepped down as vice chair of the Clark County Commission amid the legal dispute against Gypsum Resources, LLC. Jones is accused of being biased as he previously served as an attorney for the conservation group Save Red Rock in litigation against Gypsum and the County.
Last year, the county approved an $80 million settlement due to the mishandling of the Gypsum permit, and finally approved Gypsum’s 3,500 unit housing project to be built near Red Rock Canyon.
