LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – First graders across the Valley practiced their reading skills with the help of some furry friends.
160 students from Gene Ward and J.T. Mc Williams Elementary schools spent the day reading to dogs outside.
In celebration of reading week, the event aimed to reduce the pressures of practicing to read and encouraged students to read more even to their own pets.
The panel of pups were from the nevada SPCA. March 7, kicked off a month-long pet supplies drive for the shelter.
Even K-9 Officer Oreo took part in the fun.
A CCSD police officer and his furry partner wrapped up a week of promoting reading at Blackhurst Elementary in Mountain’s Edge. Officer Anthony Cooke dedicated a book to his partnership with K-9, Oreo. The duo have been booked and busy.
“What we do is we’ve been going around for Nevada reading weeks we’ve been going into classroom as a team averaging a 3 or 4 schools a day and 5 or 6 classrooms a day,” said Officer Cooke.
