LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man-made island, on the north side of Lake Las Vegas, now features several luxury homes where only dirt existed four years ago.
FOX5 reported on “The Island” when dirt was being moved in April 2022. Crews took a natural channel of the lake, existing water, trenched it, and put it completely around where about 135 homes will be built.
The development brings water recreation to residents’ backyards. Gene Northup, master listing agent for Lake Las Vegas, showed a two-story home with a pool that backs up to water, with high ceilings and multiple upgrades priced at more than $4 million.
“So our range of homes here on the island will run from 3 million to 30 million,” Northup said.
Island features massive luxury properties
Homes range from 4,000 square feet to 8,000 square feet, with even larger properties.
“We have a 17,000 square foot home, a 19,000 square foot home and a 21,000 square foot home,” Northup said, standing on a property that spans two lots.
The buyers are successful business people who have built companies, sold companies or continue to operate existing businesses, according to Northup. Many move to Nevada for lower taxes, sports offerings and a sense of calm about 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip.
Northup says of the 135 homes on the island, about 50 are in the process of being built or are built. And only 14 custom lots remain available, which are expected to sell this year.
Broader Lake Las Vegas development continues
There are dozens of homes surrounding the island that also didn’t exist back in 2022. Lake Las Vegas currently has about 4,300 residential units. When fully built out, that number will reach around 6,500 units, Northup said.
Not all properties in Lake Las Vegas carry million-dollar price tags. Northup says some homes start at $400,000.
