LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Visitors to the “sports and entertainment capital of the world” will receive an upgraded experience when they arrive at the Las Vegas airport, officials say.
Harry Reid International Airport is set to launch its “Welcome to Fabulous” campaign in conjunction with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. The new effort will center on the rideshare pickup area at Terminal 1 of the airport.
Jim Chrisley, director of aviation for Clark County, said the new guest experience aims to give guests a taste of the Las Vegas atmosphere immediately upon arrival.
“We really wanted to improve this — to really start that experience for our visitors as soon as they get to the airport,” Chrisley said.
Steve Hill, LVCVA president, agreed, saying the installation is intended to put visitors in the mood to enjoy Las Vegas from the moment they step off the plane.
“We want the excitement of our city to be reflected immediately,” Hill said. “We want them to be in the mood to celebrate, to be in the mood to escape.”
The new feature will include disco balls, special lighting and photo ops. Chrisley said there will be live DJs present at select times. It’s an experience that he said is vital, as nearly half of the visitors to the Las Vegas Valley arrive by air.
“It’s going to be a really good experience for them to really get their Vegas experience started here,” Chrisley said. “Just get them in the right mood as they transition in transit to where their final destination is.”

Amid a well-publicized tourism slump, Hill expressed optimism in the future of Las Vegas, citing big-ticket events like Saturday’s Canelo-Crawford fight at Allegiant Stadium, which he expects to be a sellout and to bring tens of thousands of people to town. He also drew attention to a nationally televised game in which the San Diego Chargers will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.
“September is not going to make up for June, July and August, but we think that we will start to see improvement in September and ramp up as we move into the holiday season,” Hill said.
While the experience will be enhanced, Chrisley said the pickup logistics and traffic patterns around the rideshare pickup area won’t change.
The campaign is initially set for a six-month window, with the possibility of extension, officials said.
