LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Aviators defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas, 6-5, in the finale of the six-game series and the ’24 regular-season finale before the 12th sellout crowd of the season of 9,395 at Las Vegas Ballpark.

Las Vegas finished the season with a 37-37 record in the second half and 74-75 overall. El Paso had its 10-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 33-42 and 64-86.

Las Vegas, trailing 5-3, rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Third baseman Armando Alvarez (2-for-5, run scored) delivered a walk-off (one out) RBI, bases loaded single up the middle.

Aviators first baseman CJ Alexander (3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI) tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI single to left field.

Aviators right-hander Jake Garland pitched 4.0 innings in the no decision. He allowed 5 hits, and 3 runs, walked 2, and struck out 7 on 70 pitches (49 strikes).

El Paso right-hander Jared Kollar pitched 3.0 innings in the no decision. He allowed 5 hits, and 3 runs, walked 1, and struck out 3 on 54 pitches (38 strikes).

El Paso center fielder Tirso Ornelas was 2-for-3, a walk, two solo home runs, and three runs scored. Right fielder Cal Mitchell was 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI.

2024 Las Vegas Ballpark Attendance: The Aviators total was 481,802 in 74 dates for an average of 6,511. Las Vegas recorded 12 sellouts in ’24.

The Triple-A season was split into two halves. The first-half winners (PCL and International League) will serve as the hosts of the pair of best-of-three League Championship Series against the second-half winner from Tuesday to Thursday, September 24-26.

The Triple-A National Championship Game, which will follow the best-of-three LCS of the two leagues, will crown an overall winner of the highest level of the Minor Leagues. The winners of the IL and PCL will meet in a single-game format on Saturday, September 28 at Las Vegas Ballpark at 7 p.m. PT.

Sugar Land Space Cowboys won the first half in the PCL (49-26, .653) and the Omaha Storm Chasers, won the first half in the IL (Triple-A best record of 49-24, .671). The second-half winners are the Reno Aces (44-29, .603) in the PCL and the Columbus Clippers (48-25, .658) in the IL.
