LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Aviators (Reyes de Plata) defeated the Round Rock Express (Chupacabras), 5-1, in the opener of the six-game homestand before a crowd of 4,469 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Las Vegas improved to 28-29 in the second half and 65-67 overall. Round Rock dropped to 27-30 and 64-67.
Aviators right-hander Brandon Bielak recorded the victory with 6.0 shutout innings. He allowed 4 hits, issued no walks, and struck out 5 on 81 pitches (50 strikes).
Las Vegas catcher Carlos Perez (1-for-4) broke the scoreless tie with a grand slam to left field in the third inning. Shortstop Darell Hernaiz was 3-for-4 and right fielder Colby Thomas was 2-for-3, double, triple, run scored.
Round Rock scored its lone run in the eighth inning on an RBI single by first baseman Blaine Crim (1-for-4). Center fielder Dustin Harris was 2-for-4, double, run scored.
Express right-hander Adrian Sampson suffered the loss. He pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 6 hits, 4 runs, walked 2, and struck out 8 on 94 pitches (58 strikes).
