LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — On This Day, we wish a happy birthday to Las Vegas’ first mayor.
Peter Buol was born on October 1, 1973, in Chicago. Buol initially trained as a chef and worked in Hollywood. But by 1904, he’d made his way to Las Vegas and quickly became involved in the mining, real estate, and artesian water industries.
He had a talent for convincing people to invest in the city, and is credited with speeding up its growth and development in the early 19th century. By 1911, Buol had his eye on City Hall. He ran for mayor and won by a margin of just ten votes.
Buol went on to serve two years in the Nevada State Assembly and four more years in the state senate.
