LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Chinatown stakeholders in Las Vegas applied for a free underground loop route offered by the Boring Company but did not make the company’s top 16 list of locations, stakeholders said.

The proposal, called “Chinatown Tunnel Vision,” called for a one-mile underground connector running parallel to Spring Mountain Road. The project was designed to reduce surface congestion, improve safety, and restore more reliable access for businesses and visitors.

‘The heart of Chinatown’

Joe Muscaglione pushed for the proposal and is the co-creator of Shanghai Taste in Chinatown Plaza and also a shareholder of Chinatownvegas.com. He says Spring Mountain Road is the heart of the Chinatown district but also frequently visited place, with peak-hour traffic delays and increasing pressure on pedestrian safety.

He said he was disappointed Las Vegas Chinatown did not make the top 16 list.

“The Boring Company posted on X that they were offering a $32 million free loop for wherever it would be needed the most,” he said. “I just kept putting my finger on the list. I said it’s gotta be there… there’s no Las Vegas there. I don’t know half of those towns.”

Muscaglione says he has respect for Elon Musk and the Boring Co. and wishes that he could speak with them more on expanding underground transportation to the heart of Chinatown.

Existing Vegas Loop nearby

The Boring Company’s Vegas Loop is already operating near the Las Vegas Convention Center. The proposed Chinatown addition would have extended the loop throughout the district, tapping into existing infrastructure already planned.

Of the top 16 locations selected, only one will be chosen to receive the free loop.
