LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas City Council voted Tuesday to approve a $2.7 million contract for streetlight safety upgrades around the valley.

The council unanimously approved the contract, which will focus on areas where traffic fatalities and serious injuries are concentrated.

The upgrades will target multiple major roadways across the city, including:

  • Buffalo Drive from Sahara Avenue to Lone Mountain Road
  • Charleston Boulevard from CC-215 to Valley View Boulevard
  • Sahara Avenue from Decatur Boulevard to Boulder Highway
  • Sahara Avenue from Hualapai Way to Rainbow Boulevard
  • Rancho Drive from Bonanza Road to Lone Mountain Road
  • Rainbow Boulevard from Silverstream Avenue to Lone Mountain Road
  • Town Center Drive from Charleston Boulevard to Summerlin Parkway
  • Hualapai Way from CC-215 to Charleston Boulevard
  • Decatur Boulevard from Cheyenne Avenue to Ann Road
  • Alta Drive from CC-215 to Hualapai Way
  • Pavilion Center Drive from Charleston Boulevard to Sageberry Drive

The upgrades are designed to improve visibility and make roads safer for drivers and pedestrians. The contract includes replacing 2,167 fixtures and 1,519 covers as part of the safety improvements.

The project falls under the city’s Traffic Improvements Capital Projects Fund and affects all wards in the city.
