LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The City of Las Vegas could have a new animal advisory board.
City council is expected to vote on the ordinance, item 42, Wednesday starting at 9:30 a.m.
The bill is sponsored by Councilwoman Victoria Seaman. The City of Las Vegas Animal Advisory Board would be a volunteer committee. The goal is to bring real-life expertise to city council on challenges facing the animal community.
Seaman says the bill is a response to years of working on solutions for the animal crisis. She says the city faced a series of critical animal welfare issues, including illegal breeding, abandonment, and sky-rocketing costs for veterinary care.
“The people who volunteer their time and donate their money to care for our animal community are seeing the consequences of these issues firsthand, and they have the real-world knowledge needed to guide our policies. This advisory board will ensure that each council member appoints those they believe will bring the most pressing issues and possible solutions to our board. It’s time to let our animals have a voice and give our community the resources they need to create lasting change for our animals.” said Councilwoman Seaman. ““This is a common-sense solution that will make a real difference in the lives of our animals in Las Vegas. Our community is counting on us to put animals first.”
