LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A City of Las Vegas’ corrections officer is accused of a deadly Las Vegas hit-and-run,

Las Vegas Metro Police identified the driver as Maurice Washington, 45 of Las Vegas. The crash happened Sunday at 3:28 a.m. near Decatur and Alta.

He drove a 2018 Mercedes-Benz S560.

According to evidence at the scene, he sped northbound on Decatur. At the same moment, a 58-year-old man would cross Decatur westbound in a marked crosswalk but against the pedestrian signal.

A crash happened when Washington continued through the intersection on a green light and hit the pedestrian. He would flee the scene.

Police said the pedestrian died. Washington would later return to the scene and be placed under arrest for DUI and hit-and-run related charges.

“This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section,” police said.

FOX5 confirmed his role with the city. In a statement, the city said, “The city is aware of the charges filed against one of our off-duty corrections officers. The case is under investigation by Metro Police, and the city will be reviewing those findings. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the man who died in this accident.”
