LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Days after a private school serving neurodivergent students was evicted, they’ve found a new, temporary home.

On Wednesday, we introduced you to Acton Academy Red Rock, and how a dispute over who was to pay for mold removal led to their eviction, and uncertainty for dozens of students.

Now that future has come into focus.

Acton Academy Red Rock’s Founder Amy Novak gave FOX5 a tour of their new landing spot, until the end of the school year.

She says all 61 students can stay together, which is a huge win after it was unclear whether or not they’d have to split up.

“We had so many wonderful, amazing humans that said, ‘we’ve got this space over here, that you guys can use, we’ve got this space over here that you guys can use,’” Novak says.

Novak says it was a student’s family who offered the perfect space to fit their needs.

“We looked at it, and we’re like, ‘oh my gosh, yes,’” Novak says.

The school’s students learn in all different ways, with ages ranging from kindergarten to high school. Because of that, Novak says they need some separate spaces.

High school, middle school, and elementary school are all grouped together, but unlike traditional schools, they don’t use grade levels or letter grades.

“We don’t give a letter grade, instead you work to your mastery, because it’s not time bound,” she says.

Novak says learners also govern themselves. Each age group, or ‘studio,’ votes on who they want to represent them on the council, where students of all different ages come together to solve problems.

“Where they implement their own, whatever system they come up with. Our system changes every year because our group changes every year, and what they’ve learned goes with them,” she says.

When it comes to next year, Novak says they’re still searching for their permanent home.

Right now, she says they’re focusing on getting used to this building, doing team building exercises until it feels like home again.
