LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – November is National Adoption Month, and FOX5 got the chance to speak to a local family about their adoption journey.
The Tucker family has grown over the years with the help of a local adoption service.
Now, they’re sharing their story to help others understand more about the process. It’s a heartwarming story that you’ll only see on FOX5.
There were a few distractions when talking to the Tucker family about their adoption journey. But Garrett and Trisha wouldn’t have it any other way.
After being unable to conceive on their own, they began looking into adoption.
“We didn’t know anything about it, we didn’t know the process at all,” Garrett told FOX5.
Now, thanks in part to Loving Hearts Adoption Services, the Tuckers are proud parents to two children.
“The first step always is to contact a licensed professional you don’t have to make a decision right then and there just get info and talk about it as a family and determine how you want to move forward together,” said Alexandra Andress, Loving Hearts Director of Adoptions.
She says there’s one important thing anyone considering adoption should know: “It’s going to come with a lot of bumps and challenges and flexibility and patience are absolutely required, and if you aren’t expecting to be patient and flexible, you’ll be forced to.”
It’s something the Tuckers know all too well. While their first adoption back in 2015 took about a year to complete, their second in 2021 wasn’t formalized until earlier this year.
“It’s a rewarding process, it’s long, it’s hard, it’s an emotional roller coaster,” Garret shared. “But it’s a way to have a baby, I don’t want to say for sure but eventually. it does take some time and it is a long time.”
Trisha says one of her favorite parts of the process was facilitated by loving hearts.
Trisha added, “Being able to meet with other couples who are experiencing the same emotions you are and making those friendships and bonds has been really rewarding for me.”
The Tuckers are preparing to embark on that journey for a third time – a bit unexpectedly.
“My husband said, well if we got a call out of the blue again, then I would be open to that possibility and that’s exactly what happened,” Trisha said.
But now they are doubly prepared for what’s to come.
“Yes, it has its struggles and things but ultimately in the end if your goal is to have a baby… adoption is the right way to do it, a great way to do it,” Garret said.
Trisha says she feels the same emotions and feelings as any expectant parent waiting for a new child to join the family, despite taking a different path to get there.
