LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – FOX5 recently told you about the sentence handed to the man accused of stabbing a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police K9 Enzo. He could serve up to 20 years as punishment.

On Wednesday, LVMPD rewarded the officers credited with saving the police dog’s life.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released new video showing the tense moments after a police K9 was stabbed multiple times last week.

Video from March 29 shows his handler desperately racing to get the dog to an emergency veterinarian in time to save his life. LVMPD pilot Patrick Sherwood knew he and his partner were in a position to help.

“Enzo was heading down hill, he wasn’t sure he was going to make it,” Sherwood said. “And I told Remy, I said if he’s super critical we’ll put it down on Decatur and you guys can jump in and we’ll take you to Durango, with rush hour traffic there was no way they were going to make it there in the time allotted.”

Enzo is now fully recovered and back on the job.

Officer Sherwood was among the more than 100 Metro employees honored with commendations for their dedication and community service.
