LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Clark County Justice Court Chief Judge Cynthia Cruz has resigned.
FOX5 reached out to Clark County Officials and the former Chief Judge’s campaign manager, who would confirm her resignation.
In a statement, Cruz said she has been considering her decision to step down for some time now.
“I look forward to assuming the civil docket in the vacant Department 4 and continuing my important work with the Drug Court and DUI Treatment Court, where I can focus on directly serving the community,” shared Cruz.
Cruz is stepping down three months early.
A representative of Cruz says this is in the court’s best interest.
Cruz explained her decision was made after the new Chief Judge was elected.
“This will ensure a smooth transition and allow the newly elected Chief Judge to take on full responsibilities without delay. Judge Cruz has always prioritized the efficiency and well-being of the court,” said Tom Letizia, Campaign Manager of Judge Cynthia Cruz.
Melisa DeLaGarza will assume the position of newly appointed Chief Judge.
