LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man was sentenced up to 25 years in prison this morning after being convicted of murdering his friend March of last year.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Paul Abercrombie shot and stabbed Christopher McCary on March 12, 2023. Detectives say Abercrombie claimed he was “high on mushrooms” when the shooting happened.

He said he believed someone was trying to rob him.

Before his sentencing, McCary’s mother spoke to the court to share her pain since her son’s murder.

“You know how hard it is to try to go and pick out a casket for your child? Do you know how hard it is to walk into a place to try and find a suit to put on your child? All by the hands of his so-called best friend?” Qiantis McCary said. “I don’t forgive today, and I don’t forgive tomorrow. Chris was my everything. I’ll never have closure.”
