LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The man arrested outside of a Trump rally in Coachella has filed a new lawsuit against the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
In the lawsuit, Vem Miller – who spoke with FOX5 on Monday – accuses deputies of violating his civil rights through unlawful search and seizure and defamation. Attorney Sigal Chattah, who is also a Republic National Committeewoman, is representing Miller.
Miller told FOX5 that as he approached the rally, he rolled down his window and informed officers that he had guns in his vehicle. Officers then ordered him to pull over and took him into custody.
“I probably did have deputies that prevented the third assassination attempt,” Sheriff Bianco told reporters during a press conference. “I truly do believe that we prevented another assassination attempt.”
Miller is now pushing back against those claims. “They said that I’ve made threatening statements about the president. Well, where’s the body cam footage? They made me into some kind of elite Lee Harvey Oswald.”
Both the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI declined to interview Miller.
According to the complaint, Miller is a caucus captain for Trump and was provided “expedited special entry passes” from the campaign.
The lawsuit describes Miller’s arrest as “deliberate and wrongful conduct… for the purpose of promoting and engaging in a meritless and sensational story.”
Miller is seeking general and punitive damages, and requesting the county fire a deputy involved in his arrest. At time of writing, a hearing for the case has not been scheduled.
