LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An arrest report has revealed more about what happened before a dog was thrown into a dumpster last week.

According to Las Vegas police, Alexis Flores, 30, was caught on home surveillance video getting rid of a small tan Chihuahua after finding a dumpster near his home on March 14.

Detectives from Metro’s animal cruelty division received information about the abuse a day later when the dog was rescued from the dumpster by a homeowner across the street.

On March 16, detectives began canvassing the neighborhood to search for answers. Metro said they spoke with hundreds of people to see if they recognized the vehicle or Flores.

One resident told police they believed the man in the surveillance video looked like their neighbor who lived at the end of the cul-de-sac. Detectives drove down the street and noticed a gray Jeep Patriot similar to the one in the home security video.

The Jeep’s vehicle registration was tied to a Henderson address under Flores’ brother’s name.

Detectives connected the brother to a previous auto burglary call under a 2023 Metro event number. This was to ensure that investigators could get his location.

The brother states on the call, he saw a TikTok video of a dog being thrown in the trash can. He said he believed it was his brother in the video. He told them he knew it was his brother based on the build and bald head.

Alexis’ brother told detectives that both the dog and Alexis went missing. The brother said the dog is his and its name is Marley. He last saw the dog on the Sunday before the dumping.

The brother admitted he does not know why his brother would do something like this, and that he is “short-tempered and aggressive like that.”

Police later caught up with the suspect in the video and arrested him.

Las Vegas Metro Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident alongside Clark County Animal Protection Services.

In a police interview, Alexis fully admits to what he did on the surveillance video. He said the morning started by taking his girlfriend to work. He then came home to let the dogs out, and that’s when Marley ran away. Flores explained that he went on a hunt for the dog. Every time he would try to grab Marley, he would take off from him again. At one point, Alexis fell to the ground, which made him angry. The report said Flores spent 45 minutes dealing with Marley.

The report goes on to say, a little bit later, Flores’ young daughter, who sometimes plays rough with Marley by pulling on his tail or petting him roughly, was nibbled on by Marley. That is when he proceeded to put the dog in the car and take him to a dumpster.

Alexis said Marley is “so annoying and frustrating, that he decided to teach him a lesson.” He admitted that his mindset was not to kill the dog and said he is just tired of always caring for the “bad dog.”

Alexis said he went back the next day to retrieve the dog, but Marley was already gone.
