LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The former owner of a motel known for one of the deadliest apartment fires in Las Vegas history has turned himself in to start his sentence.

In January, Adolfo Garcia pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges for the apartment fire at the Alpine Motel in downtown Las Vegas in 2019. Six people died in that blaze.

Tuesday morning, a judge ordered Garcia to appear in court to begin serving his sentence. According to jail records, Garcia is in custody. He has been sentenced to 144 consecutive months in prison.

Officials said the fire started from a stove top because a tenant didn’t have heat.
