LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Nevada performer has sued Taylor Swift and several related companies in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, claiming Swift’s team is using a name that is too close to her long-running brand.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday, was brought by Maren Flagg, whose stage name is Maren Wade, who says she has used “Confessions of a Showgirl” since 2014 for a column, live touring show, and other media. She says the title was federally registered as a trademark in 2015 and later became legally “incontestable,” according to the lawsuit.

Flagg alleges Swift and affiliated entities adopted and marketed “The Life of a Showgirl” starting in 2025, using it not only as a creative title but also on consumer merchandise such as candles, drinkware, and accessories, the lawsuit states. The complaint also says Swift’s companies expanded the branding through retail channels and collaborations with major brands.
A key point in the suit is that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office allegedly refused Swift’s application to register “The Life of a Showgirl” in November 2025 because it could be confused with Flagg’s registered mark, but Flagg claims Swift’s team kept using it anyway.
Flagg is asking the court for a jury trial, an order stopping further use of the name on goods and services, and financial remedies including damages and profits.
