LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department welcomed 29 new officers to the force on Wednesday with a graduation ceremony at Treasure Island.
Of the 29 graduates, 22 attended high school in Southern Nevada, part of the department’s effort to hire from within the community.
The class includes 24 men and five women, ranging in age from 21 to 42.
Recruits began the academy in August and come from a variety of backgrounds, including a former Los Angeles Police officer, an electrician, a deli clerk and a mail carrier.
