LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – This past month, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department successfully caught a wanted fugitive south of Las Vegas.

Metro shared a bird‘s eye view of how they worked alongside the FBI to stop the suspect vehicle.

The team used a specialized pursuit intervention tool known as “the grappler,” which grabs the car from underneath and stops it.

According to police, the suspect, a 10-time convicted felon, was wanted in the state of Washington after multiple dangerous pursuits.

During a recent chase in Tenino, Washington, he leaned out of a fleeing vehicle and fired an AR-15, disabling a patrol car. Police say no one was hurt.

After days of searching, the fugitive was finally located on May 13 by Metro police and taken into custody.

Metro has two patrol vehicles with the tool installed. The first one went active in January, and another was outfitted earlier this month.

This was Metro’s first deployment of the tool.
