LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — New video shows the moment police deployed a robotic dog to help search a “biological lab” discovered inside a Las Vegas home.
On Saturday, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, alongside the FBI, served a warrant at an east valley home, where officers discovered refrigerators “containing vials filled with unknown liquids.”
During a media briefing, LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill highlighted live video of the robotic dog being deployed inside the lab to help keep law enforcement safe. He added that the dog also captured air samples to determine if investigators could enter the space.
“To safely manage the risk, a layered use of technology, as you see here to my left, was employed throughout this operation,” Sheriff McMahill said.
According to McMahill, the department had about a week to develop a tactical plan, coordinating with local and federal agencies. During that time, they learned three people were inside the home. Police confirmed those persons were not involved with the incident and had no knowledge of the illegal lab in the locked garage.
Once investigators determined the home was empty, officers in protective gear entered the residence.
“Almost immediately, investigators observed multiple refrigerators, a freezer, and other laboratory-type equipment, along with numerous bottles and jugs containing unknown liquid substances,” McMahill said.
Investigators collected over 1,000 pieces of evidence, including biological material and liquids, which have been sent to FBI labs for testing.
Police identified the home’s owner as David He, who is currently in federal custody. He also owned a home in Reedley, California, where a 40-page congressional report from 2023 revealed another biolab.
“In Reedley, investigators reportedly discovered an illegal biolab containing materials possibly associated with a range of infectious diseases, including hepatitis, COVID, HIV, malaria, and other potentially dangerous pathogens,” McMahill said. “While it is unknown whether similar materials were present here at the Las Vegas residence, the possibility required us to proceed with extreme caution.”
Locally, police arrested 55-year-old Ori Solomon, the property manager for the home. Solomon is charged with disposing of and discharging hazardous waste, and facing gun possession charges as a prohibited person.
A federal criminal complaint obtained by FOX5 also indicates that the three persons living inside the home may be Solomon’s children.
Officials say it remains unclear what the samples in the Las Vegas home contained, but they will work with federal partners to have the items tested.
