LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas Metro Police sat down with FOX5 on Behind the Badge about Wednesday night’s anti-ICE protest that ended in multiple arrests.
800 people gathered in the streets to protest the growing number of ICE raids across the country to march through the downtown area.
At some point, LVMPD deemed the gathering unlawful after several disturbances and traffic violations were observed, and dispersed the crowd.

Deputy Chief Jose Hernandez said, “We are here to provide a safe environment for people to exercise their First Amendment rights as long as it’s lawful, it’s peaceful, so what we look for is to provide service. However, when things become violent or unlawful, with traffic infractions… that’s when officers need to take action.”
He continued, “As we saw throughout the night, several people were overtaking the roads, and at some point, they were being violent toward police officers. These are the things that deem gatherings like this unlawful… and we must disperse the crowds.”
Police stated that a dispersal order was verbally issued to the protesters before they took action.
They also told FOX5 that they are still processing all the arrests and do not yet have a total.
