LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released drone video Monday showing how officers tracked down a suspect after a violent attack in the northwest valley last week.
Officers were called to a Dollar Tree near Craig and Decatur after a vehicle crashed into the business, followed by a stabbing and reports of gunfire.
Drone-assisted arrest
LVMPD said its drone unit launched overhead and spotted 45-year-old Shawn Handley, guiding officers to make an arrest.
REPORT: Suspect claims crash, stabbing at Dollar Tree were ‘accidental’
Detectives said the incident started as a domestic dispute. Handley crashed into the business and then attacked a woman who was identified as Handley’s wife, according to an arrest report.
Another person fired shots at Handley. That person was detained as part of the investigation.
Court appearance and bail
Handley appeared in court last week and faces $750,000 bail.
Police said the case demonstrates how the department’s drone program can help officers respond faster.
