LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are evaluating whether or not they will be releasing more body-worn camera after an officer shot and killed a homeowner who called 911 to report a home invasion.
Brandon Durham was killed Nov. 12 in his home after he called LVMPD to report a person breaking in. LVMPD Officer Alexander Bookman shot Durham six times as he struggled over a knife with the home invasion suspect.
Alejandra Boudreaux, the suspected home invader, faces various charges related to the case.
A few days after the shooting, police released redacted body camera of the shooting. On Nov. 18, FOX5 requested additional body-worn camera of the incident, including video from Bookman’s camera before he arrived on scene and video from the other officers who responded.
LVMPD initially denied that request the same day, citing an open investigation.
On Tuesday, the Body-Worn Camera Unit issued an additional notice that they were reviewing whether additional video could be released.
“The BWC Unit is presently working on determining whether any additional video can be released, given the pendency of the investigation and privacy interests,” they said in an email.
Police said they would provide an update next week.
Durham’s family has called on Officer Bookman to be arrested for the shooting.
“Mr. Bookman knew Alejandra, knew Brandon, knew who owned the house, understood who belonged there, could see that someone was standing in his underwear, and chose to pull the trigger,” the family’s lawyer Cannon Lambert said Monday. “Not just one time, but six times. And five times happened when he was on the ground.”
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson asked for patience as the investigation continues.
“Somebody died, okay? So we’re going to take this case seriously,” Wolfson said Monday. “There’s an autopsy that’s going to be performed. We’re going to do thorough background checks on all of the people involved. These things take time.”
