LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police have identified the officer involved in the deadly shooting of an armed suspect Sunday night.

According to LVMPD, officers responded to reports of a suicidal man inside a South Point hotel room around 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8. Hotel security previously attempted to enter the room, but exited after hearing the suspect rack a firearm.

SWAT and crisis negotiators were then requested at the scene.

After several hours of attempting to contact the suspect, police say the man suddenly exited the room with a long rifle and charged toward officers.

LVMPD said Officer Zachary Adam, 45, then shot the suspect and attempted to provide medical aid before he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Adams has been employed with LVMPD since 2006 and is currently assigned to the Tactical Operations Division in the Special Operations Bureau.

He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending a review of the shooting.
