Las Vegas Police officer who shot, killed homeowner will not be indicted, attorneys say

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metro Police officer who was identified in the fatal shooting of Brandon Durham will not be indicted, according to his family’s attorneys.

On Friday, Officer Alexander Bookman’s attorney, David Roger, will hold a press conference to discuss the investigation and the latest on a possible indictment.

The District Attorney’s office initiated grand jury proceedings against Bookman back in March. Sources tell FOX5 Bookman will not be indicted.

The shooting happened in November 2024, just after midnight. Officers responded to Brandon Durham’s home in the 6900 block of Wine River Drive near Sunset Park while he was wrestling with an intruder, later identified as Alejandra Boudreaux.

One of the officers responding was identified as Alexander Bookman. Police said when officers entered the residence, they heard a loud noise and saw two people struggling over a knife.

Police said Bookman shot at Durham, 43, firing six rounds. The Clark County Coroner’s Office said he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

In April, Durham’s family filed a $1 million federal lawsuit against Bookman. His family, along with national civil rights attorneys S. Lee Merritt and Canon Lambert released a statement Thursday calling for action against Steve Wolfson. They refer to the unsuccessful attempt in indicting Bookman.

“This failure to act is a betrayal of the public trust and a violation of the District Attorney’s sworn duty to uphold the law without fear or favor,” said attorney S. Lee Merritt. “Officer Bookman murdered Brandon Durham in cold blood. This community deserves transparency, accountability, and justice.”

Durham’s family is calling on Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford to assign a prosecutor to the case and follow through the criminal charges against Bookman. The attorneys say they are filing legal action now against Bookman and the City of Las Vegas.

“We are demanding that all stakeholders—local, national, and international—stand with the Durham family,” said attorney Cannon Lambert. “We urge the public to condemn this no-bill decision and demand that justice be served.”
