LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is upgrading software and breathalyzers with a grant.
According to a media release, the department received a $130,000 grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety, to purchase a software upgrade to interface with new breathalyzer instruments.
Officials say the grant will help upgrade interface capabilities with the newly purchased Intoxilyzer 9000 equipment for measuring breath alcohol levels in DUI cases.
The grant will also help expand and enhance the capacity to gather and store records from the breathalyzer.
“LVMPD remains committed to reducing traffic fatalities and locating impaired drivers through proactive enforcement, education and community engagement,” officials say.
