LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An armed man was shot and killed by Las Vegas police Sunday after a multi-hour barricade inside a south valley hotel.
According to Las Vegas Metro Police, dispatchers received reports of a suicidal man inside a hotel room around 5:05 p.m. Hotel security had tried to make contact with the man but heard the racking of a firearm when they tried to enter the room.
Arriving officers also tried to contact the man, but received no response and requested SWAT and crisis negotiators to the scene.
After several hours of attempted negotiations, police the man exited the room armed with a long gun and charged toward officers, ignoring commands to drop the weapon. An officer fired at the man, striking him.
The officer then began providing aid until medical crews arrived. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
According to LVMPD, this is the 16th officer-involved shooting of 2024. The officer’s identity will be released after 48 hours, per LVMPD policy.
