LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — With motorcycle-related deaths accounting for a growing share of traffic fatalities this year, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Traffic Bureau is launching a free training event aimed at brand-new riders.

So far this year, eight of the valley’s 24 traffic fatalities have involved motorcycle riders, and half of those riders were unlicensed, according to LVMPD. Traffic officers say they routinely respond to crashes involving motorcyclists who lack proper training or the required motorcycle license.

As temperatures climb and more motorcycles return to Southern Nevada roadways, police are urging riders to get educated before they ride.

To help, LVMPD and community partners will host a free, hands-on “Ride Day” for individuals who have never ridden a motorcycle:

  • Date: Saturday, March 7
  • Time: 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Location: Red Rock Harley-Davidson, 2260 South Rainbow Blvd.

The event is designed to introduce new riders to basic motorcycle operation in a controlled environment, emphasizing safety, control, and confidence-building for beginners.

In addition to Ride Day, officials say there are ongoing training opportunities available for riders who want to sharpen their skills or obtain a motorcycle endorsement on their driver’s license.

The LVMPD Traffic Bureau is encouraging both riders and drivers to do their part and work together to keep the region’s roadways safe.
