LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said they are providing more information about a shooting at a burglary suspect in the northwest valley.

Police said they received a call of a burglary in progress Tuesday in the 2000 block of North Valley Drive around 9:42 a.m. This is near Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho.

Police said a resident in the area found a person in their home armed with a knife. The suspect then fled to a different home where police would find them in a physical altercation with a citizen.

The officer involved in the shooting was identified as 31-year-old Miguel Rodriguez, Las Vegas police say.

Police said they gave the suspect commands to drop the knife, but the suspect did not listen.

Police said 31-year-old Miguel Rodriguez shot the suspect. They were transported to the hospital. FOX5 has not been given an update on their condition since.

Rodriguez has been employed with LVMPD since 2017 in the West Community Policing Division within the Northwest Area Command.

He has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.
