Las Vegas Rescue Mission hosts emergency coat and blanket drive

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — As temperatures fall across the valley, the Las Vegas Rescue Mission asked the community for help to keep people experiencing homelessness a little warmer.

The organization opened its doors over the weekend to collect gently used blankets and coats to distribute to people living outdoors or displaced this winter. Mission leaders say the need across the valley is significant and ongoing.

“Every night, there are people who will be on the back of our property, or sometimes on the front, that will be coming to our gate looking for items to keep them warm while they’re displaced,” said Heather Williams, Director of Development at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. “If we have them available, then we’re able to hand out blankets, and if we have coats in their size, we can hand those out too.”

In addition to blankets and coats, the organization asked for donations of underwear, socks, and hygiene kits — items which are in high demand as cold weather sets in.

How you can help:

  • Donate gently used or new blankets and coats in good condition.
  • Contribute underwear, socks, and hygiene kits.
  • Contact the Las Vegas Rescue Mission for details on their next donation drive.
