LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – From California to Nevada, the impact of recent ICE raids are being felt across state lines. In Los Angeles, more than 100 arrests led to protests, flashbangs, and now fear.
“I would have been that daughter of somebody who’s scared they would have took my dad, you know, all he knows is here, he’s a hard worker,” said Las Vegas resident, Vanessa Huezo.
Huezo explained she is against the immigration raids, and adds that before her father passed away, he was undocumented and that her story could’ve been like so many families.
“I know it’s wrong, but they’re good people, they’re hard workers,” Huezo said. “They’re truly trying to do it the right way for their kids. They had no choice to leave Mexico.”
But others here in Las Vegas see it differently.
“Listen to what both sides are saying, be honest about why it’s happening, and don’t allow criminals to roam free just because your party identification is a ‘D’ instead of an ‘R’, that’s not a good reason to let criminals went around loose,” said another Las Vegas resident, Scott Waller.
Waller said the outrage is misplaced and those who follow the law shouldn’t be afraid.
“The only people that fear it are people who don’t have a right to be here,” he said.
Immigration attorney, Kathia Quiros, explained she’s been seeing an increase in cases where people detained didn’t have a criminal background.
“Most immigrants, undocumented immigrants, do not have a criminal record,” she said. “They are just simple, you know, Mary and Joe who are trying to make a living to support their families.”
As protest announcements in Las Vegas are posted by groups on social media, Quiros explained its important its done in a peaceful manner and adds if you’re afraid, the best defense right now is knowledge.
“Knowing your rights is extremely important at this moment,” Quiros said.

FOX 5 has reached out to ICE, specifically asking if they plan to increase enforcement or carry out mass raids in Las Vegas. So far, we have not received a response.
