LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) -UNLV students and staff members affected by the school shooting last December – are getting a chance to heal with the help of animals.

The All Friends Animal Sanctuary held a free animal therapy and healing event for the UNLV Strong community Saturday afternoon. The goal was for people to spend time with rescue animals and be with community members.

Aside from all of the animals, an art table with mental health resources was meant to offer help to those who need it.

Being around the rescue animals isn’t lost on UNLV’s Tammi Tiger, who was at work the day of the shooting. She says being around the animals gives her a sense of peace.

“We’re all survivors here, if you think about it,” Tiger said. “The animals are here because of their story. In a way, that’s like… Part of how we all survived together.”

This is the second year All Friends Animal Sanctuary has held this event, and Tiger’s second visit.
